Day Seven

Monday 20th, the seminar is in full swing. It is already clear to me who really has the potential to become a good teacher and who will never apply the new methodology favouring the stick instead. I try not to wince when they confess that they keep the class disciplined under the long ago banned in Europe, much- feared- among- students cane.
Today we cover creative dictation and they love it!

The host family buys ‘The Himalayan Times’ English edition newspaper for me. I read that Nepal has been placed in the rank of Sudan, Colombia, Iraq, The Palestinian Occupied Territories, Chechnya and Cote D’Ivoire in terms of creating permanent insecurity for the human right defenders.
The bomb threats have prevented fruit from arriving in town, the price of grapes soars to 100 Rs per kilo, and I splash out on some sweet juicy  items on the fruit stall to share with the children at home. For better or worse, meat is available locally as there are several butchers in town.

During our late afternoon wandering we arrive by accident at a buffalo market

There’s much negotiation, bargaining, pinching flesh and closing deals, followed by pulling and pushing the just bought animals into small pick ups.
